ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Solid bodies of copper-zinc-aluminum alloys having beta-crystal structure are manufactured by a powder-metallurgic process. Starting with a powder comprising 10-40% by weight of Zn, 1-12% by weight of Al and the balance Cu, the solid bodies are formed by means of a cold compacting step, an optional hot compacting step and a hot extrusion step. The alloy of the invention has a shape memory effect with 1.5% reversible elongation at temperatures above minus 60° C. Rods made of the alloy exhibit pseudo-elastic properties during bending and stretching experiments at a temperature range of from 0° to 50°C.
