-1- Q 583 (R) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Tasteless and odourless blood cell protein isolate and heme isolate are prepared from hemoglobin by converting the hemoglobin into a solid form and separating the heme from the solid product by solvent-extraction with an organic solvent, preferably methanol or an ethanol/methanol mixture, in the presence of acid, prefer- ably an inorganic acid, and recovering the heme isolate from the extract. The acid may also be added to the hemoglobin before its conversion into the solid form.
