A process for the microbial production of a plural number of carotenoid compounds wherein the ratio of the carotenoid compounds thus formed is varied. The ratio of the carotenoid compounds thus formed (astaxanthin, adonixanthin, .beta.-carotene, echinenone, canthaxanthin, zeaxanthin, .beta.-cryptoxanthin, 3-hydroxyechinenone, adonirubin, etc.) is varied by controlling the concentration of oxygen dissolved in a liquid culture medium during the culture.
L'invention concerne un procédé pour la production microbienne d'une pluralité de composés caroténoïdes. On peut faire varier le rapport des composés caroténoïdes ainsi formés (astaxanthine, adonixanthine, .beta.-carotène, échinénone, canthaxanthine, zéaxanthine, .beta.-cryptoxanthine, 3-hydroxy-échinénone, adonirubine, etc.) en régulant la concentration d'oxygène dissous dans un milieu de culture liquide pendant la culture.
