ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A process of separating special steel components from the undersize fraction (smaller than a size between 12 and 25 mm) of shredder scrap. In this process the inherently nonferromagnetic special steel particles which are inherently nonferromagnetic but have been rendered suf- ficiently ferromagnetic during the shredding operation by a partial transformation of the austenitic structure to martensite can continuously be separated from the remaining components of the heavy fraction, such as zinc, copper, brass and lead.
