ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: In the described process of simultaneously removing nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide from an oxygen- containing exhaust gas, the exhaust gas is mixed with NH3 and is then supplied as a fluidizing gas to a fluidized bed, which consists of a catalyst for effecting a reduction of NO with NH3 to form N2 and an oxidation of SO2 with O2 to form SO3. The catalyst consists of a carrier and of catalytically active substances consisting of V205 and of Fe203, FeSO4 and/or Fe2(SO4)3, and alkali sulfates. The SO3 formed by oxidation may be recovered as sulfuric acid or may be combined with a desulfurizing agent, which consists of Na2CO3, MgO, MgCO3, CaO, CaCO3 and/or Ca(OH2).
