ABSTRACT In phase-sequence inverters used to supply asynchronous machines large commutation capacitors lead to protracted commuta- tion delay times, which renders current-carrying no-load operation difficult at high rpm. For this reason, in order to achieve no-load operation the machine is first de-excited by locking out the commutation cycle of the inverter. The commutation capacitors required for the resumption of commutation are so charged that the energy contained in them is sufficient to ensure that, once machine synchronous commutation has been resumed, sufficient cur- rent to excite the machine can flow from these capacitors into the machine windings.
