This continuous process for preparing an aqueous mixture of .epsilon.- caprolactam and 6-aminocaproic acid and/or 6-aminocaproamide which involves, as the reductive amination step, continuously contacting 5-formylvaleric acid or an alkyl 5-formylvalerate in water as solvent with hydrogen and an excess of ammonia in the presence of a ruthenium on carrier, as a catalyst, wherein the carrier is at least one of titanium oxide or zirconium oxide. The aqueous mixture can be used to prepare .epsilon.-caprolactam.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation en continu d'un mélange aqueux de .epsilon.-caprolactame et d'acide 6-aminocaproïque et/ou de 6-aminocaproamide consistant, au stade de l'amination réductrice, à mettre en contact en continu de l'acide 5-formylvalérique ou un 5-formylvalérate d'alkyle dans de l'eau comme solvant avec de l'hydrogène et de l'ammoniac en excès en présence d'un ruthénium sur support, comme catalyseur. Le procédé est caractérisé en ce que le support est formé d'au moins un oxyde de titane ou d'un oxyde de zirconium. Ce mélange aqueux peut être utilisé pour préparer de l'.epsilon.-caprolactame.
