ABSTRACT This invention relates to Nitration Grade benzene made from a benzene stream with impurities including olefins by first fractionally distilling the benzene to a purity of at least 99 mole percent and subsequently passing the stream in a liquid phase in the presence of hydrogen through a hydrogenation step with a palladium catalyst under conditions such that substantially all olefins remaining in the stream are hydrogenated to paraffins. 35,872-F
