IMPROVEMENTS TO PROCESSES AND PRODUCTION APPARATUS FOR RIGID CELLULAR MATERIALS COMPRISING POLYVINYL CHLORIDE Abstract of the Disclosure The specification discloses a process and apparatus for producing rigid cellular materials comprising poly- vinyl chloride. In the process and apparatus, embryonic blocks comprising mainly polyvinyl chloride are expanded under pressure and at a high temperature in several stages using a single expansion box closed throughout the whole duration of the treatment. The stages include preheating at 80 to 85°C, a first controlled expansion at 90 to 95°C, a second controlled expansion at 95 to 100°C, and a cooling stage. In this way expanded cellular products of high quality and finish can be obtained.
