PROCESSING HYDROCARBON FEED OF HIGH CARBON RESIDUE AND HIGH METALS CONTENT Abstract The fluid catalytic cracking of a residual oil fraction containing metal contaminants and/or asphaltene type coke formers is processed by injecting the oil into the upper portion of a riser cracking operation under conditions to effect partial conversion thereof over a catalyst inactivated by carbonaceous deposits. A 650°F plus product of the low severity cracking is passed in contact with freshly regenerated catalyst under condi- tions of high conversion severity in the lower portion of the riser. F 9746
