A method for processing carbonaceous material in a reactor. Carbonaceous material, such as sawdust, plant residues from forestry or agricultural processes, municipal solid waste and refuse derived fuel, is fed into the riser section (10) of a reactor (10 - 15) in which it is contacted with inorganic particulate material and reactor walls at an elevated temperature essentially in the absence of oxygen in order to convert the carbonaceous material at least mainly into gaseous processed products, whereby a gas phase is obtained, containing fluidization gas and processed products. According to the invention a dense suspension is formed into the riser space (10) of the reactor, containing based on the particle number 7 x 108 to 3 x 1011 particles/m3 (about 2 x 107 - 1 x 1010 particles/ft3), and the mass ratio between the par t iculate matter bringing heat into the reactor and the carbonaceous material is in the range of 1:1 to 10:1. By the invention, the mixing of the heat transfer medium and the feed is improved, and coarser and less uniform feed can be used than conventionally.
L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement d'une matière carbonée dans un réacteur. La matière carbonée, comme la sciure, les résidus végétaux issus de processus forestiers ou agricoles, des déchets solides municipaux et déchets dérivés du combustible, est cédée à la section montante (10) d'un réacteur (10 - 15) dans laquelle elle entre en contact avec une matière particulaire anorganique et des parois de réacteur à une température élevée sensiblement en l'absence d'oxygène de telle manière que la matière carbonée soit au moins principalement convertie en produits traités par voie gazeuse, ce qui permet d'obtenir une phase gazeuse contenant le gaz de fluidisation et les produits traités. Selon l'invention, une suspension dense se forme dans la section montante (10) du réacteur, laquelle suspension contient en fonction du nombre de particules de 7 x 10?8¿ à 3 x 10?11¿ particules/m?3¿ (environ 2 x 10?7¿ - 1 x 10?10¿ particules/ft?3¿), et le rapport massique entre la matière particulaire apportant de la chaleur dans le réacteur et la matière carbonée est de l'ordre de 1:1 à 10:1. L'invention permet d'améliorer le mélange du moyen transfert de chaleur et l'alimentation et permet d'utiliser une alimentation plus grossière et moins uniforme que celle du procédé classique.
