A computer program product, an apparatus, and a method for processing communications between a control unit and a channel subsystem in an input/output processing system are provided. The computer program product includes a tangible storage medium readable by a processing circuit and storing instructions for execution by the processing circuit for performing a method. The method includes: sending a command from the channel subsystem to the control unit to initiate an input/output oper-ation; setting a time period for completion of the operation; and responsive to the operation not completing within the time period, sending a message to determine whether the control unit has an exchange open for the command.

L'invention porte sur un programme informatique, un appareil et une méthode de traitement de communications entre une unité de commande et un sous-système de canal, dans le cadre d'un système de traitement d'entrée-sortie. Le programme informatique comporte un support de stockage tangible lisible par un circuit de traitement et des instructions de stockage  exécutables par ledit circuit pour exécuter la méthode. Ladite méthode consiste en: envoi par le sous-système de canal à l'unité de commande d'une instruction lançant une opération d'entrée-sortie; fixation de la période nécessaire à l'achèvement de l'opération; et si l'opération n'est pas terminée dans la période, envoi d'un message déterminant si l'unité de commande présente un serveur exchange ouvert pour l'instruction.
