A detector for detecting detonatable devices such as land mines has a a search head with a probe having a tip for placing beneath the surface of the ground. The probe tip ultrasonically provides an indication of the presence of a metal or plastic material. A force sensor coupled to the probe time provides an indication of force at the tip as it is placed beneath the ground surface. Therefore, before too much force is applied to the tip, a user is warned and accidental detonation may be prevented.

Cette invention a pour objet un détecteur d'objets contenant une charge explosive, par exemple des mines, à tête chercheuse comportant une sonde à ultrasons dont le bout s'enfouit sous la surface du sol. La sonde détecte la présence de métal et de plastique. Un capteur de force associé à la sonde donne une indication de l'effort exercé par le bout de cette dernière lorsqu'il pénètre dans le sol. Ainsi, le sondeur est alerté dès que la sonde rencontre une résistance, ce qui permet d'éviter de déclencher la détonation de la mine.
