ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION Prodrugs are prepared of the carbonic anhydrase inhibitors 2-benzothiazolesulfonamide, hydroxymethazolamide, and dichlor- phenamide. The prodrugs link a water soluble compound to the pharmacologically active carbonic anhydrase inhibitor through an enzymatically or hydrolytically degradable bond.
