High purity water is produced by providing a feed stream (2) and adjusting its pH to a basic condition. The basic solution is introduced to a high pressure side (12) of a first reverse osmosis membrane module (10) to produce a first permeate and a first retentate. The pH of the first permeate is adjusted to an acidic condition and the permeate is then introduced to the high pressure side (30) of a second reverse osmosis membrane (40) which produces a second retentate and a second permeate which has a resistivity in the range of 1 to greater than 10 megohm-cm.

On produit de l'eau très pure à partir d'un flux d'alimentation (2) dont on équilibre le pH à un certain taux d'alcalinité. On amène cette solution alcaline au côté haute pression (12) d'un premier module membranaire à osmose inverse (10) pour produire un premier perméat et un premier rétentat. On équilibre le pH du premier perméat à un certain taux d'acidité, puis on amène ce perméat au côté haute pression (30) d'une seconde membrane à osmose inverse (40), qui produit un second rétentat et un second perméat ayant une résistivité allant de 1 à 10 mégohm-cm et au-delà.
