To improve the efficiency of utilization of protein by ruminant animals when fed as part of a complete balanced diet, a mixture containing protein and a reducing carbohydrate, at or adjusted to a suitable pH and moisture content, is subjected to heat, pressure and shear forces followed by post conditioning, which involves regulation of the temperature of the mixture over various time periods. Heat pressure and shear forces may be applied by processing material though a cooker- extruder or expander. Protein so processed can be substantially protected from ruminal degradation without markedly reducing its subsequent absorption in the lower digestive tract.

Afin d'améliorer l'efficacité d'utilisation des protéines par les ruminants alimentés selon un régime équilibré complet, un mélange contenant une protéine et un hydrate de carbone réducteur, ayant un pH et une teneur en humidité appropriés, est soumis à la chaleur, à des forces de cisaillement et pression puis est soumis à un post-conditionnement qui comprend la régulation de la température du mélange sur des périodes de temps variables. Des forces de cisaillement, pression et chaleur peuvent être appliquées en traitant le produit dans un appareil de cuisson-extrusion ou expansion. La protéine ainsi traitée peut être protégée sensiblement contre la dégradation de rumination sans pour autant réduire sensiblement son absorption ultérieure dans l'appareil digestif inférieur.
