A method and apparatus for removing the skins or hulls from nuts and other seeds, including those of legumes, grains, drupes, silques, achenes and the like involves wetting the seeds with an alkaline solution (10) and then with a peroxygen solution (12). The two substances react underneath the skin to liberate gas between the seed meat and the skin. The gas bubbles blister the skin, causing it to become loosened. Slight mechanical action is used to dislodge the blistered skins from the seed meats.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour enlever les peaux et les coques de noix et de diverses autres graines, en particulier des fèves, drupes, grains, silques, achènes et similaire. Dans ce procédé, on mouille les graines avec une solution alcaline (10) et ensuite avec une solution d'un peroxyde (12). Les deux substances réagissent sous la peau pour libérer du gaz entre la chair de la graine et la peau. La peau se couvre alors de cloques, et elle se trouve ainsi partiellement détachée. Une légère action mécanique suffit pour séparer les peaux boursouflées de la chair de la graine.
