ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for the production of a chlorothioformate of the formula Image in which R is alkyl, lower cycloalkyl-methyl, lower cycloalkyl, lower alkenyl, phenyl, chloro-substituted phenyl, benzyl or chloro-substituted alkyl in which the chloro-substituent is situated at least as far as the gamma-carbon atom with respect to the sulfur atom. The process is conducted in two stages, both occurring a con- tinuous liquid phase in the presence of an activated carbon catalyst.
