A process is provided for the bioconversion of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol in which genes from a bacteria known to possess a diol dehydratase enzyme for 1,2- propanediol degradation are cloned into a bacterial host and the host is grown in the presence of glycerol; expression of the foreign genes in the host cell facilitates the enzymatic conversion of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol which is isolated from the culture.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé de bioconversion de glycérol en 1,3-propanediol dans lequel des gènes, issus de bactéries connues pour posséder une enzyme diol déshydratase favorisant la dégradation en 1,2-propanediol, sont clonés dans un hôte bactérien, et l'hôte se développe en présence de glycérol; l'expression des gènes étrangers dans la cellule hôte facilite la conversion enzymatique du glycérol en 1,3-propanediol qui est isolé du milieu de culture.
