ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Yellow iron oxide pigment is prepared according to this invention by reacting a soluble ferrous salt with a metal carbonate which is insoluble at a pH greater than 4, such as magnesium carbonate, in the presence of oxygen in a reaction system which is maintained acidic (i.e., with a pH of 4 or less) during the reaction.
