A process for producing an amide and/or acid from a nitrile comprises introducing a nitrile, as a first reactant, and a hydration compound, as a second reactant which is capable of reacting with the nitrile to convert it to its corresponding amide thus hydrating the nitrile and/or to convert it to its corresponding acid, into a treatment zone. The nitrile is subjected to catalytic distillation in the treatment zone in the presence of the hydration compound, to hydrate at least some of the nitrile to the corresponding amide and/or to form its corresponding acid. The amide and/or acid is withdrawn from the treatment zone.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire un amide et/ou un acide à partir d'un nitrile, qui consiste à introduire, dans une zone de traitement, un nitrile, en tant que premier réactif, et un composé d'hydratation, en tant que second réactif, qui peut réagir avec le nitrile pour le transformer en son amide correspondant en l'hydratant et/ou pour le transformer en son acide correspondant. On soumet le nitrile à une distillation catalytique dans la zone de traitement, en présence du composé d'hydratation, pour hydrater au moins une partie dudit nitrile et la transformer en amide correspondant et/ou pour former son acide correspondant. L'amide et/ou l'acide sont ensuite retirés de la zone de traitement.
