AECI 701 ABSTRACT PRODUCTION OF CALCIUM CHLORIDE A process for producing calcium chloride comprises passing an anhydrous chlorine-containing gas through a bed 14 of particles comprising at least one calcium-containing compound of the formula Ca X3-n, where X is selected from the group consisting in -CO3, -OH, and -O, and n is the valency of X, thereby to convert the calcium- containing compound to solid calcium chloride. When X is -OH, the bed is heated sufficiently, before or while the gas is passed therethrough, to convert the Ca(OH)2 to CaO.
