ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to an improved process for the carbonylation of alcohols, esters, ethers and halide derivatives with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst system compris- ing a Group VIII metal component and a halogen component. The improvement in the process resides in the use of a polydentate chelating phosphorus or arsenic ligand complexed with rhodium as the Group VIII metal component.
