A B S T R A C T In a process for the removal of dissolved oxygen from water, primarily water intended for use in the production of beer or other beverages a stream of gaseous carbon dioxide is passed in counter current flow through a stream of the feedwater, which for this purpose is preferably sprayed into the top of a vertical column at a temperature of 70°C or higher, the column being maintained at an internal pressure close to ambient atmospheric pressure.
