ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Detergent compositions based on alkali metal carbonate detergency builders and containing finely divided calcium carbonate having a surface area of at least about 5 m2/g, are prepared by admixing a base powder comprising a detergent active compound and optionally at least some of the alkali metal carbonate with granules formed of the finely divided calcium carbonate and a binding agent. Granules of finely divident calcium carbonate are provided which comprise 25% to 99.5% by weight of calcium carbonate with a binding agent and which have a bulk density of 0.16 to 0.96 gm/cc.
