A process for the production of difluoromethane which comprises contacting formaldehyde with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a catalyst and a chemical dehydrating agent at a temperature below 150°C. Preferably BF3 is employed as both catalyst and dehydrating agent.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production de difluorométhane dans lequel on met en contact du formaldéhyde et du fluorure d'hydrogène en présence d'un catalyseur et d'un agent de déshydratation chimique, à une température inférieure à 150 DEG C. De préférence, on utilise BF3 à la fois comme catalyseur et comme agent de déshydratation.
