A system for producing direct reduced iron wherein iron oxide material and carbonaceous material is passed successively through an oxidizing zone and a reducing zone of a furnace, each zone fired by oxy-fuel combustion, enabling a reduction in the amount of fuel needed to process the material while generating sufficient carbon monoxide to effect the reduction and ensuring that little or no carbon monoxide is emitted from the furnace.

Système de production de fer de réduction directe dans lequel le matériau contenant de l'oxyde de fer et le matériau carboné sont passés successivement dans une zone d'oxydation et une zone de réduction dans un four; chaque zone est chauffée par la combustion de l'oxygène et d'un combustible, ce qui rend possible une diminution de la quantité de combustible nécessaire au traitement du matériau tout en produisant suffisamment de monoxyde de carbone pour réaliser la réduction et assurer que le four ne dégage peu ou pas de monoxyde de carbone.
