Abstract Highlt basic Calcium Sulphonate with improved solubility in heavy paraffinic oils and improved filterability is prepared by carbonating a mixture of sulphonic acid, calcium hydroxide, water, alcohol and solvent at a temperature from 20°C to 35°C and using a stoichiometric excess of calcium hydroxide and a specified amount of water.
