Abstract of the Disclosure A hydrogen rich gas is produced from hydrocarbonaceous feedstock by subjecting the feedstock to catalytic partial oxidation under temperature and steam conditions avoiding production of free carbon, thereby producing a synthesis gas containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide; converting carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide by water gas shift reaction; and removing carbon dioxide.
