A continuous process for producing levulinic acid from carbohydrate-containing materials in high yields is described. According to the process, a carbohydrate-containing material is supplied continuously to a first reactor and hydrolyzed at between 210° C and 230 °C for between 13 seconds and 25 seconds in the presence of between 1 36 and 5 36 by weight mineral acid. The hydrolysis produces hydroxymethylfurfural, which is removed continuously from the first reactor and supplied continuously to a second reactor. In the second reactor, the hydroxymethylfurfural is hydrolyzed further at between 195°C and 215°C for between 15 minutes and 30 minutes to produce levulinic acid which is continuously removed from the second reactor. The levulinic acid preferably is produced in at least 60 %, and more preferably at least 70 %, of the theoretical yield based on the hexose content of the carbohydrate-containing material.
L'invention porte sur un procédé à haut rendement de production en continu d'acide lévulinique à partir de matériaux contenant des hydrates de carbone, selon lequel un matériau contenant des hydrates de carbone alimentant en continu un premier réacteur est hydrolysé à une température comprise entre 210 DEG C et 230 DEG C pendant 13 à 25 secondes en présence de 1 à 5 % en poids d'un acide minéral. L'hydrolyse donne un hydroxyméthylfurfural qui est extrait en continu du premier réacteur pour alimenter en continu à un second réacteur où il subit une deuxième hydrolyse à une température comprise entre 195 DEG C et 215 DEG C pendant 15 à 30 minutes, ce qui donne l'acide lévulinique qui est extrait en continu du deuxième réacteur. Ledit acide est produit à raison de 60 % et mieux de 70 % du rendement théorique calculé sur la base de la teneur en hexose du matériau contenant les hydrates de carbone.
