An energy generating and storage system comprises electric storage batteries and an electric generator. The generator may be driven by wind or tide action or alternatively by a combustion engine powered by methanol. The methanol is produced by using electricity generated from wind and tide and solar power to pump, desalinate and hydrolyze water to form hydrogen, which is then combined with carbon dioxide; the methanol in effect forms a convenient accumulator for wind, tide and solar produced energy.
