ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Fresh feed of C1 -C5 refinery gases containing pre- dominantly polymerizable butenes are rapidly mixed and diluted with Friedel-Crafts catalyst and recycle reaction mixture in a static mixer before passing to the polymeriza- tion reaction column whereby the temperature is more readily controlled to a constant value to produce polybutene of more constant quality in higher yield and with less catalyst loss.
