-1- ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for manufacturing polymeric foam. In the production of polymeric foam in particular polyurethane foam slabstock, a mixture of foam reactants is allowed to expand in a closed mould while substant- ially atmospheric pressure is maintained above the upper surface of the foam. After expansion is com- pleted,air is supplied to the foam upper surface and noxious gases is the foam are removed through one or more apertures in the lower region of the mould. Pre- ferably, the air supplied is dry. Removed gases may be collected for re-cycling. Air may be supplied during foam expansion. Various mould aperture arrangements and means for progressively covering the mould are described.
