Un procédé de production de propylène de haute pureté comprend: - une étape de dimérisation de l'éthylène en butène-1; - une étape d'hydro-isomérisation du butène-1 en butènes-2 et - une étape de métathèse des butènes-2 par l'éthylène. Avantageusement, l'éthylène utilisé pour produire le butène-1 et l'éthylène pour la métathèse proviennent d'une unité de vapocraquage. Pour accroître la production de propylène, le procédé peut utiliser, comme source accessoire de butènes, une coupe C4 de vapocraquage ou de FCC.
