ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for the preparation of a protein in a physiologically active or native form is disclosed. The method includes providinga source of protein in a solubilized form and an agent capable of rupturing atomic forces within the molecule. The protein is contacted with the atomic forces rupturing agent in water in an amount sufficient to allow the protein to convert to a physiologically active form, which agent is selected from urea, or derivatives thereof, dimethyl- sulphone and mixtures thereof.
