ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Compounds useful in lowering the triglyceride level and/or cholesteraol level of the blood have the formula: Image and their therapeutically acceptable salts, where: x and Y are both -0-, or X is -S- and Y is -0- R is (i) -Cl or (ii) -C(CH3)3, A is a valence bond, or a vinylene or ethylene group; R1 is (i) -COOH, (ii) -COOMe, where Me may be sodium, potassium, magnesium or aluminum, or represents a therapeutically acceptable ammonium group, (iii) -COOR2, where R2 is a straight or branched chain, saturated or unsaturated, alkyl radical having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, optionally bearing a terminal hydroxy or methoxy group, or a dimethylamino group, or R2 represents a pyridyl-(3)-methyl radical, (iv) -CONHOH, (v) Image , where R" is a methyl or ethyl group if A represents a valence nond, or (vi) Image , if A represents a valence bond. Procedures for forming these new compounds are described.
