A system for applying a suspension of uncooked starch particles in water to a web on a forming wire (14) by an applicator die (25) positioned transversely of the web with an internal manifold opening into a downwardly opening die slot through which material flows from the manifold as a falling curtain (30) onto the web. The die has a plurality of transversely spaced inlets leading into the manifold to define transversely spaced application zones. The suspended starch and dilution water are applied from the manifold through control valves (36 and 38) into the inlets whereby the concentration of the starch may be varied across the web to provide a desired strength profile to the dried web in accordance with a desired strength characteristic as measured at the dry end.

L'invention concerne un système permettant d'appliquer une suspension dans l'eau de particules d'amidon non cuites, sur une feuille continue se trouvant sur une toile de formation (14), au moyen d'une buse (25) d'applicateur placée en travers de la feuille continue. Ce système comprend un collecteur intérieur débouchant sur une fente de buse s'ouvrant vers le bas, à travers laquelle la matière provenant du collecteur s'écoule sur la feuille continue sous la forme d'un rideau tombant (30). La buse comporte plusieurs entrées espacées dans le sens transversal, conduisant au collecteur de façon à définir des zones d'application espacées dans le sens transversal. L'amidon en suspension et l'eau de dilution sont amenés du collecteur jusque dans les entrées, en passant par des valves de régulation (36, 38), ce qui permet de faire varier la concentration d'amidon le long de la feuille continue pour conférer à cette feuille continue séchée un profil de résistance voulu, en fonction d'une caractéristique de résistance voulue, mesurée dans la partie humide.
