- 13 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In a computer system, a keyboard which is used by a user is equipped with at least one socket to attach a ROM in which is stored predetermined secret data relating to a software package to be executed by the system. This ROM is supplied by a software manufacturer in association with an authorized copy of the software. Only when this ROM is attached to the socket in the keyboard can the keyboard perform data communication with the main unit of the computer system when the latter is executing the associated software. The sockets may be as many in number as the software packages which are to be executed by the computer system.
