Abstract of the Disclosure Apparatus for data modulation of electrical carrier signals, featuring, in one aspect, a differential detector having a delay line whose length and shifting frequency are both programmable; in another aspect, the combination of a differential detector, having a programmable sampling frequency; in another aspect, an improved linear phase digital filter having means for storing samples of the signal on two delay lines which, when cycled, provide pairs of samples whose member sample sequences are oppositely time ordered; and, in another aspect, modem circuitry having a digital filter whose tap coefficients are all scaled by a common factor such that the most significant bits of the filter output are indicative of the digital data.
