An electronic control device for controlling timed functions of an appliance has a processor for controlling its operation, an input for entering command and time of command information for a function to be preformed, a memory for storing information entered at the input, a real time clock, a comparator for comparing time on the real time clock with the time of command information in the memory, and actuator for effecting a command signal to be communicated to the appliance when the time of command information for a particular command matches the time on the real time clock and a feedback pick-up which is sensitive to output from the appliance. The feedback pick-up receives both on and off and level of output information from the appliance indicative of whether a command signal from the control device has been successfully communicated. In the event of failed command signal the control device is responsive to the feedback pick-up to re-enter commands when there is a failed command signal indicated by the feedback pick-up.
