This invention relates to modulation of programmed cell death. It also relates to transgenic non-human animals comprising a disrupted Ich-3 gene and methods of making these animals. The Ich-3 mutant animals exhibit resistance to septic shock and defects in folliculogenesis. This invention also relates to methods of using the transgenic animals to screen for compounds to treat septic shock and defective folliculogenesis. Moreover, this invention also relates to methods of treating septic shock in normal individuals by inhibiting ICH-3.

L'invention concerne la modulation de la mort cellulaire programmée. Elle concerne également des animaux non humains, transgéniques, comprenant un gène Ich-3 interrompu, ainsi que des procédés de fabrication de tels animaux. Les animaux mutants possédant le gène Ich-3 démontrent une résistance au choc septique et présentent un défaut de folliculogenèse. L'invention concerne encore des procédés d'utilisation de ces animaux transgéniques, afin de cribler des composés pour traiter le choc septique et le défaut de folliculogenèse. En outre, l'invention concerne de procédés de traitement du choc septique des individus normaux, par inhibition du gène ICH-3.
