A projectile (10) for firing from a barrel, said projectile including a multiplicity of barrel assemblies (12, 13, 14) radially disposed from the centre of mass of the projectile, wherein each of said multiplicity of barrel assemblies includes a plurality of sub-projectiles (16) axially disposed within a barrel; each of said sub-projectiles associated with a discrete propellent charge (17) for propelling a respective sub-projectile from the barrel, wherein said projectile is capable of selectively firing sub- projectiles (16), suitably with the aid of primers (18) each coupled to an electronic controller (15), to provide a predetermined pattern of deployed sub- projectiles. A defence system employing projectiles of the type described is also disclosed, together with a method for disguising the launch location of a projectile utilising divert propulsion.

La présente invention concerne un projectile (10) de tir avec un canon, ledit projectile comprenant une multiplicité d'ensembles de canons (12, 13, 14) radialement disposés par rapport au centre de masse du projectile, chacun de ladite multiplicité d'ensembles de canons comprenant une pluralité de sous-projectiles (16) axialement disposée dans un canon; chacun desdits sous-projectiles étant associé à une charge de gaz propulseur distincte (17) destinée à propulser un sous-projectile respectif à partir du canon, ledit projectile pouvant sélectivement tirer les sous-projectiles (16), de manière appropriée à l'aide d'amorces (18), chacune étant couplée à une commande électronique (15), pour former un schéma prédéterminé de sous-projectiles après déploiement. L'invention concerne également un système de défense faisant appel à des projectiles du type susmentionné, ainsi qu'un procédé de masquage de l'emplacement de tir d'un projectile faisant appel à la propulsion déviée.
