Abstract of the Disclosure A projectile for combating armoured targets is disclosed. An ultra- sonic diffuser is provided in the stabilizing tail. The ratio of the mouth cross section to the throat cross section of the diffuser is chosen such that above a certain Mach number air flow is absorbed and resistance to forward motion is low and below that Mach number a shock wave is produced increasing the resistance to forward motion of its projectile. When the normal intended flight distance is exceeded because the target has been missed, for example, the decrease in velocity of the projectile results in a sudden and considerable increase in its air resistance so it is rapidly slowed up. This is a useful feature when the projectile is being used on a test range of limited size.
