A projection toy has a toy body and a screen. A light source is provided and a light-transmitting material for displaying design is placed in the path of the light emitted from the light source. Both the light source and the light transmitting material are housed in the toy body. Light is transmitted from the aforementioned light source through the material for displaying designs and projects an image of the design on the screen. The screen is fastened to the toy body by a detachable connector so that it can be positioned in the light path at any distance from the toy body.
