A digital image projector (10) for increasing brightness includes a first light source (44, 44a); a second light source (44, 44b) that is spectrally adjacent to the first light source; a dichroic beamsplitter (46, 62) disposed to direct light of both the first and second light source; a spatial light modulator (60) that receives light from both the first and second light sources; and projection optics (70) for delivering imaging light from the spatial light modulator.
