Disclosed herein are genetic markers for pig litter size, methods for identifying such markers, and methods of screening pigs to determine those more likely to produce larger litters and preferably selecting those pigs for future breeding purposes. The markers are based upon the presence or absence of certain polymorphisms in the pig prolactin receptor gene coding region.
L'invention concerne des marqueurs génétiques pour la taille de la portée chez les cochons, des procédés d'identification de ces marqueurs et des procédés d'analyse de cochons pour la détermination de ceux susceptibles de produire les plus grosses portées et de préférence la sélection de ces derniers à des fins de reproduction. Les marqueurs se basent sur la présence ou l'absence de certains polymorphismes dans la région codant le gène du récepteur de la prolactine du cochon (conformément à la figure 1).
