Methods of prolonging survival of allotransplanted cells, tissues or organs are presented. These methods are directed to administering to the allotransplant recipient an inhibitor of complement activity together with one or more immunosuppressants. The inhibitor of complement activity is administered chronically. These methods have been determined to aid in preventing chronic rejection of allografts. These methods can additionally be used in cases in which the recipient has been presensitized to the allograft or in which there is an ABO mismatch between the allograft and the recipient.
L'invention concerne des méthodes de prolongation de la survie de cellules, tissus ou organes allogreffés, qui consistent à administrer au receveur de l'allogreffe un inhibiteur de l'activité du complément ainsi qu'un ou plusieurs immunosuppresseurs. L'inhibiteur de l'activité du complément est administré de façon chronique. Il a été établi que les méthodes de l'invention contribuent à prévenir un rejet chronique des allogreffes. Ces méthodes peuvent en outre être utilisées dans le cas où le receveur a été présensibilisé à l'allogreffe ou lorsqu'il y a incompatibilité ABO entre l'allogreffe et le receveur.
