A catalyst support solution for improving the attrition resistance of a Fischer-Tropsch catalyst, the solution comprising: crystalline silica and at least one chemical promoter selected from alkali metal bases, wherein the support solution has a pH of greater than or equal to about 7. A structurally promoted catalyst comprising: crystalline silica; at least one basic chemical promoter; and iron; wherein the catalyst comprises SiO2:Fe in a ratio of from about 2:100 to about 24:100. A method of producing a structurally promoted precipitated iron catalyst, the method comprising: forming the structural support solution described above; stirring the support solution for a time to dissolve the silica in the solution; adding the support solution to a precipitated iron catalyst slurry to form an attrition resistant catalyst slurry; and drying the attrition resistant catalyst slurry to yield the structurally promoted precipitated iron catalyst.

L'invention concerne une solution de support catalytique destinée à améliorer la résistance à l'attrition d'un catalyseur Fischer-Tropsch. Cette solution contient : de la silice cristalline et au moins un promoteur chimique sélectionné parmi des bases métalliques alcalines, la solution de support présentant un pH supérieur ou égal à environ 7. L'invention concerne également un catalyseur activé structurellement contenant : de la silice cristalline; au moins un promoteur chimique basique; et du fer; ce catalyseur contenant SiO?2#191:Fe dans un rapport allant d'environ 2:100 à environ 24:100. L'invention concerne encore un procédé de production d'un catalyseur à base de fer précipité, activé structurellement, consistant : à obtenir la solution de support structurel décrite ci-dessus; à agiter la solution de support pendant un moment pour dissoudre la silice qu'elle contient; à ajouter ladite solution à une bouillie catalytique de fer précipité pour former une bouillie catalytique résistante à l'attrition; et à sécher ladite bouillie pour produire le catalyseur à base de fer précipité, activé structurellement, selon l'invention.
