ABSTRACT A propellant for aerosols free from fluorochloro- hydrocarbons and having reduced combustibility, comprises as predominant component at least one liquified hydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of propane, butane and isobutane, in admixture with 2 to 20 weight % of at least one chlorohydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of dichloromethane and l,l,l-trichloroethane. The propellant of the invention is conveniently manufactured by a process which comprises passing at least one hydrocarbon of indus- trial degree of purity liquified under pressure through a coarse filter to remove oily impurities therefrom, the hydrocarbon being selected from the group consisting of propane, butane and isobutane, then passing the coarse filtered hydrocarbon through a fine filter to remove odor- causing impurities therefrom while simultaneously admixing therewith 2 to 20 weight % of at least one chlorohydrocarbon selected from the group consisting of dichloromethane and 1,1,1-trichloroethane, and thereafter trickling the mixture of hydrocarbon and chlorohydrocarbon, filtering same and collecting the filtered mixture.
