ABSTRACT FOR THE DISCLOSURE A prophylactic and therapeutic agent for viral diseases in a region of the respiratory tract which contains a pulmonary surfactant as active ingredient. The agent containing a pulmonary surfactant as active ingredient can be prophylactically or therapeutically applied to viral diseases caused by viruses which have envelope glycoproteins and are capable of epidemic infection and multiplication in a region of the respiratory tract, such as influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, measles virus and mumps virus.
